The 'ribbon' sales pitch is really compelling - there are these carefully constructed soft ribbons that will massage your sound - ooh la la -

User reviews might present a different sort of reality.

There's a review of these in TapeOp from about a year ago.

Note that the ribbon is implemented in a very different way than in the Adams. There it's a folded design (I think to increase lateral dispersion?), in the Samsons it's flat.

oh my bad your'e right they in fact, are sampsons.

i guess the only hype i have on these things are from the last issue of
tape-op. i believe it was a full page advert.

i checked 'em out... kinda BRIGHT, imho. nice imaging though. bass was typical of a nearfield that price range. they sounded better quiet than loud.

Not bad for the money. i don't really know how much the ribbon is contributing to the overall sound, as opposed to a standard tweeter.

I have a pair of the larger ones. I really like listening to rock on them, but I'm far from certain I'll ever want to mix on them. They sound pretty sweet, especially cymbals and such. When I listened to them in the store, they sounded pretty bass weak. At home, in admittedly not the best positioined place, they had a very loud peak at 125hz. I've had them a while now, and I'm not noticing that peak as much, so maybe it was a break in thing (I find it hard to believe), or maybe I've just gotten used to it. I'm also not sure if it's the speaker itself, or where they are at the moment.
