Chinese Ribbon Mic Importing Article in EQ Now Online

Lynn Fuston's article about his adventure importing ribbon mics has now appeared online:

The names of the guilty have been removed.

His conclusion that importing mics yourself is not really a good deal appears to be aligned with the magazines sales dept - of course an ad-supported publication would prefer that you buy their advertisers mics and not muck about DIY.

I still believe there is room for a third model between buying name brand mics at retail (with marketing, sales and customer service expenses rolled into the mic price) and disorganized bulletin board group "minimum price" group buys.

The "third way' might be either an LLC group buy structure modeled on open source practices OR an offering by a name brand but rebaged to protect the parent brand identity.
