Danelectro Fab Overdrive & Fab Distortion $14.95??

Post by caz » Fri Mar 10, 2006 5:05 pm

Friends, Romans, Pedal Pushers,

Has anyone grabbed one or both of these? I just ordered them from Music123 with free shipping for $14.95 each! I'm hoping they'll be good for something...

The story goes (I guess):

Danelectro Fab Series D-2 Overdrive. History was made in 1975 when a mom and pop store in California commissioned the production of just 200 of what is perhaps the best overdrive effect ever. Unlike any other device, that pedal authentically simulated the breakup that occurs when a tube amp is run at full volume.

I have the FAB Echo, and it sounds really freaking good. I wouldn't hesitate to pick up any others in the line.

I bought one from GC for a inexpensive xmas gift for a friend. Tried it out before I handed it over. Actually sounded OK with gain & tone at 1/2 way (5-6), crappy if you dime it. It's no Tube Screamer, but for $15, hey....!

I have both. Great little pedals at a truly good price. Will probably die under heavy use, as doo many of the Dano pedals. I suspect that the history is bullshit.

was at someone's house recent that had one of these - can't remember which one but i was shocked when this girl stomped on it and it made a weird peavy SS amp sound fantastic.

I bought the chorus and delay pedals of this series (some sound design I was working on, and these are not my favorite effects), and they sound actually pretty darn good. Heck, sometimes $15 won't buy you a pitcher of beer anymore, so what do you have to lose.

Agreed on the probable durability of the pedal housing/switches- wouldn't want to use it at a Pantera gig.
