Tracking, for sure. There's 4 guys who do most of the work in my space. They all have nice equipment and spaces elsewhere (home or other studio connections) for minor overdubs and mixing. People seem to like the sound of the room and some of the gear we have (keyboards and such...and 2" tape...). Most focus on getting down as much basic tracking as possible, then taking their time mixing in private environs. A few come back to do final mixing on 1/4", but not all.
So, yeah. We're more of a tracking place...

I thought this club was for musicians. Who let the drummer in here??
50-5 split
so far a 50 50 split...

I think the tracking room is important but i'm thinking that mixing may be the strong point of my future studio

Re: more tracking
well... great sounding tracks are a hell of a lot easier to mix than poor ones. i'd dump the time and $$ into the live room. the relationshipe between $$$ made from tracking and $$$ made from mixing is directly related to how long it takes the band to get thier shit to tape correctly. regardless, a great sounding live room will save you a lot of trouble in the mixing stage. and i've never had anyone bitch about how long it took to track a record (obviously, because THEY are the reason it took so long...or short) but, i've had a person at least inquire about why it took xxx amount of time to mix. explaining why can be difficult. just my two cents.supafuzz wrote:Hmm I would think it would be the other way around

I realize that the tracking room has to sound good especially the drums
I've recorded and mixed at Fun City with Whatron Tiers and he has the
strangest shaped space narrow with low ceilings and no apparent treatment anywhere but still gets amazing sounds. It depends on my skills getting sound down as well. I'll probably put the most care to the section where the drums are
If you get great drums that's most of the battle
