Studio wiring-unbalanced cable to 002 rack.

Post by Silverjet89 » Fri Mar 24, 2006 3:58 pm

I'm setting up a nice home/project studio and have some wiring questions. I did a search but couldn't seem to find a diffinitive answer on this.
I have a Ramsa WR-T820 board that has unbalanced RCA outputs. I want to run these into a balanced TRS patchbay and then into my 002 rack. Are there any concerns I should be aware of (other than noise) going unbalanced out to balanced in?
Also, the cable has to run about 20 feet from the board to the patch bay. Any suggestions on how to reduce the noise from the unbalanced cable.

Thanks,
Kirk

buy some high quality cables and don't run them parallel to other cables (like power, etc) if at all possible. going RCA/unbalanced out to a balanced patch-bay won't help you. it's still unbalanced the whole way through. When you connect it to the 002 it will also still be unbalanced.

Yeah, I know that noise would be an issue. I had heard rumours that the 002 might have problems with unbalanced lines going in even though the manual says its OK.

Still learnin'
