my commissioned back wall diffuser

Post by klangtone » Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:22 am

I just wanted to share some pics with you all of a back wall diffuser I had my friend Nathaniel make. He is a wood sculptor and makes a lot of crazy looking things out of scraps of wood. So I thought it would be perfect for him to make me a diffuser. Granted, there is no science to this one. Just pure randomness, but people have been posting about something as simple as a bookshelf full of books acting as a diffuser, so I didn't think I could really go to wrong no matter how it turned out.

These pictures do not do it justice, but here you go. You can see in the close ups that what he did was create a spiral type of cut in the wood which actually allowed it pop up like an accordian:

The one below actually goes into the wall (he had to cut out a chunk!):

That's it. Just had to share. It seems to have done the trick too. People have commented that it sounds better in the control room now. And smells kinda cool too.

Thanks for looking.
