NEEDED: Software/plug-in that converts SMPTE to MTC

Post by Philipasdf » Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:59 am

Hi,

I'm using a Tascam 38 8 track with Cubase SX. My soundcard is a Terratec Phase 88. In the CubaseSX manual it say you need a SMPTE to MTC converter for the computer to read the incoming timecode. I have only found hardware that will do this but there must be a plugin or something!

I thought of making a SMPTE reader plug-in a while back, but I figured the time it would take to hack through the SMPTE spec just wasn't worth it, especially nowadays that you can pick up a used JL Cooper box for cheap to do the same thing. Hardware will keep the timecode rock solid, whereas with software you'd have to compensate for converter latency. Also, then you'd be passing SMPTE in through your soundcard, and nothing bleeds across channels quite like SMPTE.

There's one on Ebay right now, or I'll sell you mine that I'm not using.

Cheers,
Leigh

Word up. I got my JL Cooper box on the 'bay for under $20 shipped. Plus it has blinking lights!
