motu 828: mk1 or mk2 for Black Lion Mod?

Post by runrunrun » Sun Dec 17, 2006 12:32 pm

thinking of picking up an 828 and getting black lion to mod it. right now i have a digi 001 and will be using the 828 via adat with PTLE.

I am wondering if it's worth the little bit extra to get the mk2 for the 96khz for "future purposes"? my thoughts are the I can just save $$$ and just use 44.1, which should serve my purposes.

Anyone compared a post mod 828 Mk1 with an MK2? What about comparing these with a modded 002?

are you sure BLA even mods mk1's?

the mk2 is a vastly superior machine, it seems. and you cant get new ones, can you?

yeah it says on the site he does the mk1.
also, i forgot to ask if either of the 828's will work as a standalone converter, no firewire, just adat.

i pesronally haven't done it with adat (yet), but the mk2 definitely does not need a computer to operate. not sure about the mk1

thanks for the input.
im sure the mk2 is a better machine and such but i'm just trying to get 8ch of good converters as cheap as possible. i might end up splurging for the mk2 but not if i dont "have" to.

as a side thought, you might consider getting an alesis ai-3 and having it modded. if you're wanting the motu solely for conversion, the alesis would be a viable alternative, and i'm sure it'd sound nice with better analog stages. thought i'd throw that out there.

hmmm yes that is a pretty good idea. i've heard that the digi 001 has a crappy clock but im sure i'd still notice an improvement with the better converters.

i'm also thinking about just getting my 001 BLA modified and not even bothering with another box. I never use anymore than 8 ins or outs...and its my cheapest option.
