ha! This year bought 19" & 18" paiste dark energy crashes and the mark I ride.
Those just stood out. I tried pretty much every zyljian, istanbul, masterworks, meinl, paiste... there is.

a hand-made snare by CAZZ, 7" deep, made from oak and it is built like a barrel.
This is one of the most versatile, dynamic and brilliant snares I've every heard.
It's so amazing I wish I could show you.

Also, I built 2 channels of neve pre amps, a 1073 eq, and a channel of 1176 for my lunchbox and a matched pair of c12 clones with NOS tubes from the 70ies.

got a AKG D19 cheapcheapcheap, and tomorrow a used beyerdynamic m201
and I modded my c1000 for better lowend response and less basket reflections which made it a completely different microphone.

bought a used sandberg bass vm4 --> amazing instrument

I'm not a drummer nor a bass player and I haven't yet recorded a single song this year even though I have about 3 albums worth of material.
guhhh I just can't get it togetherrrrr.

Awesome! One of my favourites on floor tom and the back of the upright piano.

Now stop buying gear and go make some music.

yeah that's what I have in mind now!
Thoses last few days I went straight to my rehearsal space after work and set up everything for drum miking.

I used the D19 to record a bit of bass at rehearsal to remember a song.
Just pointed it anywhere on the cab really. when we listened back even my drummer was instantly amazed how balanced it sounded! (he's not the typical "sound nerd")
Needs a lot of gain though.

Uher Report 4000S. Mono, 1/2 track portable reel to reel. I found this guy at an electronics surplus store and bought it on a whim, untested. I had no idea if it would even power on and had to build a bunch of DIN to 1/4' adapters before I could test it. The video is my first go with it. Seems fine and functional.

Live tape loops here we come.

The Ubass I bought a few weeks ago had defective electronics. Rather than replacing same, they just had me return the whole unit.

So I bought a fretless Ubass offa the Ebog, new, for US$90, and it works Cool

What a weird feel to the strings ...

I assume it has those black strings, probably still easier to get used to than the silicone clear ones on my Ashbory (I keep a talc bag from a bowling alley pro shop in the case, to get my fretting hand to be able to slide on those strings).

Mine are white, "Aquila" strings - like a kinda thick and resilient rubber.

You can hear it DI'd thru a Brick and 160XT in parallel with a VC3Q, here.

I've been selling off my collection of Tascam 388s and used some of the money to buy a new old 3.33ghz 12 core Mac Pro to replace my old 2.8ghz quad core. Probably some level of irony in there, but I needed more power for film projects and as much as I love the 388, it's just not practical for the work I have lined up for at least the next couple of years.

Cuppla Ebog scores:

First, I been tryna get one of those double-ribbon Cad Trion 7000's for ages, for cheap. Found listed as the "CAD Joe Satriani Guitar Amp Microphone Pack" with a D139 for a C-note.

Next, I scored a MXL Genesis FET. I've wanted one of these as it is allegedly the FET version of the Genesis tube mic, which I already have and really, really like on my voice. Looking forward to the comparison ...

Finally, hadda buy another One-Spot type thing because the Jamman XT sucks so much juice that when power-chained, it starts to glitch, so it needs it's own supply.

Picked up some old tubes at a thrift store, for a buck a piece: Mullard 12ax7 (Great Britain, not a reissue), Telectro (MIJ) 12ax7, Zenith 12au7, GE 12at7 and GE 6k6 (lower power version of 6v6).

Haven't tested yet, but they look good.

I'd guess most people have no idea vacuum tubes are worth anything at all... for most tubes, they're probably right. The tubes at this store are separated into two boxes, by size. The bigger ones in the $2 box and the smaller, $1. The 6k6 was in the $2 box, but they gave me a break on getting 5 tubes. I see original Mullards going for $150 in some web stores. Geez. It's gotten out of control.
