Shots in the Dark: Henry Mancini Tribute

Post by shedshrine » Fri Aug 03, 2007 7:59 pm

Was wondering if TapeOp's own Roboburger of Man or Astroman? could shed a little light on this album. Especially their Touch of Evil contribution. Real interesting surf/lounge approaches to these Mancini tunes.
Poison Ivy of the Cramps doing Peter Gunn theme.
Ex-Cars Elliot Easton's Tiki Gods cover Mr Lucky, there's a Moon river complete with a hidden track at the end coming back with a japanese verse.

Shots in the Dark: a Henry Mancini Tribute

And a pulp fiction album cover..

Man, is this thing that obscure? I feel so hip.lol

I just dug hearing old classic stuff my folks (and grandfolks) had playing all souped up and modified for modern consumption, respecting the originals, and taking things somewhere new. Pink Panther movies were my introduction to Mr. Mancini as was probably true for lots of people. I just remember thinking that was a cool song, and adultish so I was so mature.lol

Sounds coolio. What's the label? I used to really like those Hal Wilner things (he organized a bunch of tribute compilations too).
