November’s MSP Audio Geeks meetup is Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30pm at the Pavek Museum. We will be joining the Audio Society of Minnesota for a DAC shootout. Thanks to Oliver Masciarotte for coordinating!

From the website:
“On November 15th, attendees of the ASM/MSP Audio Geeks joint meeting will get a rare opportunity to directly compare several DACs in true A/B/X listening tests. We will also have a MQA-certified DAC on hand, Mytek’s Brooklyn, for non-encoded/non-decoded and decoded listening tests with a variety of program material.

Bring your HRA files, on a flash drive please, along with your DAC for possible inclusion in the testing. We hope to see you there!

Join us at the Pavek Museum of Broadcasting in St. Louis Park for an evening of in depth discussion and listening. Attendance is free for all, and light refreshments will be on hand. The presentation begins at 7:00 PM, and, as always we encourage you to join us at 6:30 for more casual conversation.”

Refreshments are served; guests, visitors, and new members are welcome to attend.

Join: Individuals may join the ASM at any time by paying the annual dues of $25 at any meeting. Club dues for those who join after our December break are just $15.

To find out more, check out their website at audiomn.org or their Facebook page at facebook.com/audiosocietyofmn.

February's MSP Audio Geeks meetup is on Wednesday, February 22nd from 7-9pm. Levi Stugelmeyer of Summer Winter Studios will be our host. We are excited for this joint outing with the Mpls.-St. Paul Studio Nerds group, which is moderated by Gregg Ward.

Levi John Stugelmeyer is a drummer, producer and studio owner. He is the touring drummer for Nashville based artist Caitlyn Smith and the owner of Summer - Winter - Studios in Saint Paul, MN.

Summer - Winter - Studios is a compound based in the old offices of the King Koil mattress factory. It consists of a professional recording studio, rehearsal studio, and a 1,000 square foot gallery/performance space. It is also host to multiple photographers, artists, and musicians.

Gregg Ward is a songwriter, musician, and engineer residing in St. Paul, MN. He is the curator of the MSP Studio Nerds Facebook Group and a mastering engineer at Studio Arcade Mastering. Some of the things he is currently thinking about are where vintage and new merge, future potential and encouraging artists, cultivating creative catalysts in the studio, writing a better pop song and finding a good red wine.

In partnership with Summer Winter Studios, we are trying something new we're calling the Free Trade Fix Table.
Do you have gear that works great but you never use and would like to see it put to use?
Do you have gear that just doesn’t work right and know you will never get around to fixing?
Have something that you would like to trade for another piece of gear?
Do you have strong fixit skills and want to save some money with your time?
In the spirit of coming together and sharing in community, stop by the Free Trade Fix table and check it out. Feel free to take or donate something. Help yourself and someone else.

Invite your friends and join us for an evening of audio geekery! Feel free to BYOB. If you are planning to attend, please email mspaudiogeeks at gmail dot com.

March's MSP Audio Geeks meetup is this Tuesday, March 14th at 9:30am. Please note the morning time. With thanks to James M. Davis of Cade Michaels for assistance in coordinating, we will be touring the Showplace ICON Theatre in St. Louis Park. Scott VanDoren, Projection Presentation Analyst, will be our host and tour guide.

The tour will focus primarily on the Dolby® ATMOS™ system but you are welcome to ask any questions during the tour.

About the theatre:
"Founded in 1909 with a single storefront nickelodeon, Chicago-based Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres introduced a "new era of moviegoing" with its ShowPlace ICON Theatres in Chicago and Minneapolis. Managed by third generation family, Tony and Dean Kerasotes, the Company plans to debut ShowPlace ICON Theatres in additional major U.S. markets.

In addition to projection and visual enhancements, select ICONX presentations will also feature Dolby® ATMOS™; upwards of 60 individually powered QSC Speakers; and up to 40 QSC Digital Amplifiers, creating more than 100,000 watts of audio power. Dolby® ATMOS™ enables sound to be placed anywhere in the auditorium, delivering a unique and compelling experience with natural and lifelike soundscapes, surpassing anything else currently available in theatres."
