Getting organized?
I've been going through old closets and bookshelves and trying to get rid of old stuff... and finding some new stuff I'd like to keep, but know where it is and have it put away in just the right place.
Do you guys have any tips on organization that help you? I'm specifically talking about papers and stuff. Books and records are easy-- I have bookshelves and places for them. But what about those pieces of paper that are relatively important? For the most part I've been throwing away 98% of what I've come across, but have a hard time figuring out where to put that leftover 2%. Filing cabinet has only done so much for me...
What works for you guys?

I've got a ginormo accordion-style folder for papers. A section for credit card statements, electric bills, product manuals/documentation, college loan junk....all that kinda stuff. It takes up no space at all. Might work for you.
Who cares what it sounds like soloed?

Re: Getting organized?
actually, i've been doing that... i have a pegboard screwed into the wall, with the shophooks hanging out nice and long and wires hung around them.ubertar wrote:hooks on the wall. different hooks for different cable types.wing wrote:how do you guys go about organizing cables? i have so many weird kinds... and even XLR's... what are your methods?
the problem with this method, though, is when i go to grab a cable, i end up pulling half of them with it, and things get all messy and tangled and crappy. ...

Re: Getting organized?
With papers i package them all up in a big box and head off to mothers where i store them in her garage. She usually makes me take a smaller box home in return though, which i sort through and give her the stuff i want to keep in storage back.
All the stuff i want around though i put in priority piles and store pile A in the bedroom where it's easy to get at, pile B in the back of the cupboard in the hall where it's almost easy to get at, and pile C in our garage, where it'll take some rifling through to find again. It's kind of organising i suppose.
Cables, yes, hooks for longer ones and all the little connectors in a box under the desk.

what do you guys do for organizing random newspaper and magazine articles? like right now, i have an article on kevin shields. just one article. where do i put it? i'm not going to start a whole filing cabinent for "kevin shields articles," but i also don't want to mix it up with "random articles on things" and never find it again.

I scan all my papers and burn them to cd's.
Unless they have to remain in their original form, in which case i put them in file folders and stash them in our attic.

America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.

The stuff we like we store in big drawers under the bed, anf there are some videos in the hallway too. The stuff we don't like so much (and lots of my 4-track tapes that i don't need right now) are in big boxes at my mum's. Thank god for my mother actually.

Ok, ok - I know how crazy and eccentric this going to sound to everyone, but I put them in a row on a shelf.wing wrote:how do you guys store cassette and video tapes?

Re: Getting organized?
not that I've actually done this but, this is what they do use at work:
cut it in half lengthwise and slide your cables in. the one in this photo is proly a little long in the tooth. (I had to) You can get them from most computer or networking places in various sizes.
I do the long loop loose bow-tie method for most of my cables. hung on wooden dowels I pounded into a 1x4. I keep planning on getting some of the above.
