OK SO THIS IS FOR ALL YOU DJ'S OUT THERE WITH BAD RCA CABLES ON YOUR 1200'S.
this is a very common problem, these babies are always getting hooked and unhooked, resulting in shorts at the plug and other stds.
you will need:
new rca cable (not too heavy guage)
soldering iron
phillips head screwdriver
pillow or bubble wrap
wire cutters
a multimeter is handy.
first go find that old dustcover you never use.. it will come in handy today.
remove the platter, or when you flip the TT over it will probably fall out.
gently but firmly pull straight up.
so here's its ready to flip over with the platter removed:
i use a pillow to balance it while its upside down but a nice size book would work just as well. now you'll need to remove the feet and screws:
save the screws in a safe place:
now you can gently remove the rubber base:
here's the guts:
you'll need to remove this boot and metal plate to get at what you need:
the boot. once you unscrew it, you'll need to pry it open with a flat head or butter knife.
you'll need to remove the old cable. just clip the ziptie and desolder the old cables. leave the ground wire alone! be careful not to apply too much heat for too long. as you can see i did a shit soldering job last time. now i have a better iron.
ready for fresh cable:
prep your new cables.. cut the plugs off one end, i like them a little longer than the stock cables. if you use very heavy guage its tough to get the boot back on and its hard to solder.
if you zip it down first, its a little easier to hold in place. dont forget to zip down the ground wire too.
ok so now solder your leads down. not my cleanest soldering job folks but hey..
check your work before you put all those screws back in:
ok close it back up, you're done.
now you don't need to pay some flake to do it for you anymore. you can spend that money on records.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I was just recording some vinyl off a 1200 last night. We tried running the signal through various stomp boxes. The purple Line 6 Filter Modeler was my favorite. I wish my Vox wah-wah wasn't on the fritz, 'cause I would have loved to had it in the mix as well. _________________ Prog out with your cog out. |

Love the Radial stuff. I did have the 1200 going into a Vestax mixer (couldn't tell which one, all the markings had rubbed off of the top) and from there to a pair of Radial JDI's before hitting my RNP. I was really running the stomps off an extra set of outs and ins on my 828. _________________ Prog out with your cog out. |

a particularly annoying problem.
have you tried working some fader lube into the slider?
i have encountered a few of these "possessed" 1200's, usually heavily abused victims of the nightclub circuit.
i will be attempting a full tonearm transplant next.

do you have a model with the centre detent on the pitch slider or not? mine (a mk6) doesn't have a centre detent and doesn't exhibit this behaviour. |
