Funny, thats exactly what I just did on a session. That was the Silver, though. Maybe there's a difference.Ever try to sing through one? Not good.
senneheiers e609 mic - i cant find a thing i like it for....
On a recording, it might be a cool effect for a particular vibe. For a live show, however... not good.

It's funny. I was at a concert last night and watched, once again, an older very well known saxophonist get on stage, go up the 421 that was waiting for him, and proceed to flip it up like it was a u87 or something.kayagum wrote:The PR40 is NOT a side address mic- it's an end address mic. When you buy one new, it's pretty hilarious how many stickers the company puts on the mic to warn new owners of that. I'm sure their tech support people are pretty sick of the question.
The MD421 is an end address mic too.
His resulting sound was a very thin representation of his upper register.
For some reason, with all the tech people running around, checking cables and fixing violin DI's and such, nobody decided to fix this issue, which I found strange considering that the shitty-ness of his sound seemed blaringly obvious (at least to me) AND he was the main star of the show.
I've had a bit of experience with the e609 silver in the past and found it really nice on accordion, actually.. picks up just enough of the breath/tone of the instrument without being overly noisy. I've also tried it on guitar amps and snare with somewhat-acceptable results but I've had much better luck with various other dynamics/condensors in both those applications. Great mic to just hang in front of an amp in a live setting though, as stated earlier in the thread.

blend it
609 functions for guitar amp reinforcement in small room Mackie PA situations. A hair of bite and nothing else much to get in the way of the vocal....

the 409 is a great mic! You should at least look into the 906. Definitely the closest thing I've heard and it doesn't cost the absurd amount of money that 409s have been getting in the last few years.getreel wrote:I love the 409. Been wanting one forever but the prices go up and up on those things. The 609 is not acceptable to my ears as a substitute. I'd like to try the 906 if it's closer though. I used to mic Marshalls with 409s in the early 90s for some great grunge tones

Anyone wanna buy one? haha
I own one. It was free. So I will keep it around as a paper weight until I find a use for it.
I've used it for Toms back in 2005 (borrowed another one... yuck). Didn't like it. Used it again for rack tom. Again, didn't like it.
I've double mic'd a 1970s Marshall, a 1970s Twin, and my 1990s Mesa with both a 57 and the 609 silver and the 57 always wins. The 609 sounds harsh to me and the 57 natural.
Not sure what I'll use it for, but something will come up. Aside from accordion, any suggestions?

Are the e609 and e609 Silver the same mic?
