I own 8 of them and 6 012's. If you want a matched pair that will last,,,learn to mod mics. These things rock for $100, get shockmounts, these are way oldschool mics. They are Russian,,,,

I guess you didn't see that it was me talking about the "topic" of MK 319's earlier either. Since that was the topic and face it, $59 is a ludicrus price for any neumann I thought you'de figure it out. Sorry, My mistake.

Any where you would recomend going for such experience?

Also, I was browsing guitar center's deal of the century, of the minute (login/pass: cool / deals) and saw no sign of the oktava deal being discussed.

What I did see was an MXL 990+991 plus a 2 channel budget pre for $129. I'm looking to expand my meager mic collection. Is this a good deal?

If you don't have any, yeah, it's a good deal, you'll use them for something and they'll come in handy more than twice , for $129 how can you beat that?
I'de recommend looking into a nearby community college with an electronic program that's reputable and a genius that won't kill you if you hang at his/her shop and watch.

That's because GC has stopped carrying/ advertising/ etc. Oktava mics and opted for the MXL gear in it's place. It's the same deal they were pitching with Oktava gear previously. As for it being a good deal...not sure, I've never heard or used MXL equipment so all I can tell you is use your best judgement.

I have a Oktava MK-319 that i use occassionally for vocals. I cannot use it without a pop filter because of excessive plosive pops. This is with just normal speaking into the mic,no singing.Have anyone else had this problem or do i just have a "bad" mic? Thanks for reading!

Well....

1. How close are you to the mic when you are "talking" into it?

2. Are you using your (remember this from your parents) inside voice or outside voice?

Nearly any mic is going to pop or have the breathy sound to it if you are practically swallowing the mic and not using a pop filter.

It's possible, since it's an Oktava, that you have a bad one though. I have had great fortune in not getting one of the crummy Oktava mics that some people seem to wind up with. All of mine work wonderfully and have never given me anything but exact reproduction of what I put in front of it to record. Though Okatava does specifically mention that a pop filter should be used on all of their products.

Hi Devlars! Im about 8 to 10 inches away from the 319.I guess you answered my question if Oktava suggested using the pop filter.Do you know anyone who mods this mic? If not i guess i will just use the pop filter and call it a day! Thanks for reading!

I read somewhere recently that you can mod an 012 so, I bet you can mod a 319. I hear it won't help matching them cuz it has more to do with the diaphragm.
I found it!

Anyone see the upgrade mods to the the MK/MC-012 mics in Recording magazine this month? Also a lot of details about the variances in parts found in this mic.

Actually yes Snatchman, there is another thread going on in this very forum talking about mods that can be done to the 219/ 319, and the name Scott Dorsey seems to be mentioned everytime an Oktava mod is discussed. Look for "Any mods for the Oktava 219" thread and there is a load of info in there. I'm actually really interested to mod my Oktavas but I haven't the slightest idea how and reading about the mods, unless you're a tech person, is a bit on the baffling side...and not in a good sound isolating way either.

The problem is that, as someone in the other thread has stated, there just isn't a mod explaination that has decent pictures that coincide with the process. So for we who are hands on and visual learners we're on the pooched side, unless you feel like having a go at doing the mod anyway and chance damaging one of the mics in the name of self education.

Too true, Devlars. I think if you do a search in "Recording" magazine you can get an explaination, how good it is??
