Reason #23487 why TapeOp is cooler than Gearslut

Post by kayagum » Wed Mar 04, 2009 1:28 pm

Nobody posts their gear in their sig! :D

Seriously, I was appalled when I went to GS to do a little side research. It looked like a golfing forum. You know- a sig like:

Driver- Taylormade R9 7.5 degree with Mitsubishi Diamanda shaft S
Fairway- Ping G10
Hybrid- Cobra Baffler
Irons- 3-9 Callaway X-22
Wedges- Vokey Spin Milled 48 52 60 64
Putter- Scotty Cameron Newport 2

PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE DON'T START IT HERE. :D

Truthfully, taking up golfing has saved me from GAS [Gear Acquisition Syndrome] for audio stuff. Anyone have recommendations for hybrids?

I don't really see a reason to trash other message boards. They all serve a distinct community. I find Gearslutz to be very helpful for certain things.

Have you found a Tape Op-like magazine and/or forum yet for golfers? If there isn't one yet, maybe you should start one.

I wonder if they have a thread going yet about this thread. Anybody seen one?

I don't think anyone cares. It's not a competition. I think between Tape Op and GS there's a lot of great and not so great info and discussion, but I have to give props and thanks to Tape Op (Best Publication in the World).

TOMB and Gearslutz = apples and oranges

i like 'em both for slightly different reasons.

Yeah, the Q&A forums are a nice touch at Gearslutz. It would be pretty cool if we had something similar here at TOMB.

Sorry, but this forum is no less potentially annoying or elitist than GS. Different, yes, but equally lame at any given moment. And also equally helpful at any given moment. There are those on this forum that would have us all believe that TOMB is so much more friendly, more organic, more encouraging than GS. Based on the change in atmosphere and attitude I have seen here since I joined, I'm gonna have to call a monumental BULLSHIT on that.

I've just been recently hitting Gearslutz - it's not as bad as I'd always heard. I do like when you search, you get the little sub-menu at top. Nice.

Gearslutz: A little more open to mainstream/commercial mediums but a little worried about their dick size.

TapeOp: Can be a little elite but is always chocked full of integrity.
