FR: search subject line only

Post by pixeltarian » Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:16 am

am I missing something or do we not have the ability to search the subject line of posts only? sometimes I want to find a post that is about what I'm looking for, not 137 obscure references to it that have no relevance...

thanks...

I still think it's weird not to just have this feature be default. this board should update to something more... cutting edge (but still free).

it takes a pretty crazy amount of time and effort to update a board like this.

really? what about this tool:
http://download.simplemachines.org/?converters
about halfway down there is a converter tool for phpbb to SMF

and surely it can't be that hard to upgrade to the latest version of PHPbb.
it has custom topic search:

You ever actually try one of those on a board with a database as big as this ones? and converting all of the old archives? and the design? a board with this many users and this much traffic? yes, really. Don't be a dick - I'm sure Hillary and Ryan know how to google "phpbb converter" too. Since you're so good at googling, why don't you use it to search the board for titles only? Just sayin.

The entire design would have to be recreated for the phpbb3. v2 requires you to use inline images and inline styles. v3 abandons most of that entirely. Not a trivial task.

I totally agree that phpbb2 is a pile of shit. I'm guessing though that if they had time to upgrade it or change the software entirely, they would. Until then, google works real well. In fact, the method I described is faster then it ever would be directly via the board. Also, funnily enough, google is real good at writing search code - the results are better then the phpbb software would return too.

1.3 seconds:
1. ctrl+L (or cmd+L)
2. TT "your search"
3. enter

presuming you saved the title search under TT.

I wasn't googling. I was looking at the PHPBB forum and website and talking about it in the irc chatroom. thanks for assuming I'm a mindless idiot though. much appreciated.
