pdf edition of TapeOp?

Post by inverseroom » Fri Apr 09, 2010 2:05 pm

Larry--about five minutes after I first tried out the iPad, I thought, "Please God let Larry Crane provide pdfs of the first dozen issues of TapeOp." This thing is GREAT for reading magazines (with the $1 Goodreader app)...I wonder if there are any plans to distribute TO this way? I am sure your advertisers would approve...

We're taking steps to make that happen, and we have a new guy aboard to help with stuff like that and a site redesign as well. Look for exciting changes, eventually!

I don't know whether to laugh, cry or shit myself.

edit: speaking of shitting myself, I wonder what percentage of iPads have fecal matter on them from people reading pdf's on the john?

Awesome. The iPad is going to change magazine publishing in a big way...magazines look great on it.

By the way, the first ten issues would be Tape Op book Vol I, so that's up to Feral House who own it. Maybe book Vol. II could be digital. We'll see. We'd start with current issues, of course.

I was reading about iPads and don't see a real use in my life at the moment. I love the iPhone while traveling though.

I am not a phone guy, but this thing fills a real niche in my professional life. I do have the first TO book of course, but thought it would be cool to see its original form...

As an Amazon Kindle owner I'd love it if the Tape Op books were made available for the format as well. ebooks on demand are cool stuff to me - saves some paper and you don't need to keep an inventory for it or ship it around.

Same percentage as books and magazines that are poop-encrusted. If it weren't for taking a shit I would never get any reading done.

I think it'd be great to do a search of .pdf Tape Op issues for all articles relevant to your situation. For example, search "SM 57," and you're pointed to all articles mentioning 57s. Could be super helpful when on the job and facing new gear or situations.

Agreed. A PDF version would rock for iPad or HP Slate, etc.....

Here's another vote for an electronic edition that works with e-readers. I am not in the US and I travel a lot. I have never had a smooth renewal of my international subscription (every other magazine sends a renewal notice; I have to guess when it's time to renew TO). If I could easily get Tape Op electronically, I would, and I'd happily pay for it.

+1 times 1000.

Sound-on-Sound magazine has been selling an entire year on disk for $15 for subscribers.

Just being able to throw out several hundred pounds of magazines from valuable bookshelf space AND be able to browse page-by-page (and do searches!) on the computer is invaluable.

A VERY worthwhile project....

This makes me super happy! Until about 2005 it was rather tough to find tape op in my corner of the world. It would be pretty amazing to be able to flip through back issues via pdf!!
