My current DAW: a 2006 Acer Aspire T135 (desktop, xp home, sempron 3100+, 1.8GHz, with add-on RAM and graphic as well as firewire), Cubase LE, and a firepod. I'm hoping to upgrade to a duo-core CPU, possibly get a quiet HD that's 7200RPM at the least, windows 7 , and lots of RAM. In that case, would it be easier to just get a new computer instead of replacing the components? Can anyone point me to a system that meets the said criteria? I've been on Newegg all night and my eyes are so crossed... My budget $1200.

Go to Pacific Solutions and tell them what you have and what you need. I've had many people thank me for sending them there. They've screwed up a couple things here and there, but they were honest and straight-forward about making things right in the end. $1200 will buy you a hell of a lot of Windows PC.

Edit: Powell Blvd between 50th and 52nd.

Thanks! I will look into it. Did you have them built your DAW?

I've been trying to figure out a DAW system to get. It seems like the easiest way to do this, is to get a Rok Box Mc5x.

I'd love to hear some input from people that have owned it and/or used it...Is it worthy of $1,400? Sure I can go DIY...Except that I've never built one before, and I spent the whole weekend just to get all the specs down, and I'm sooo tired of newegg!!!

Please share your thoughts. It'd be great help!

I did not build my DAW. I'm using a DELL 400SC from about 50 years ago, running Windows 2000. It works OK for what I need. My PCI 324 card for my MOTU interface won't support anything much newer anyway.

I do most of my computer shopping either at PacSol, NewEgg or, honestly, Free Geek. I bought the parts for my current Windows 7 workstation from PacSol and built it myself.

I've had good luck sending people that weren't knowledgeable enough to build their own to PacSol. They didn't get talked down to and wound up with systems that met their needs.

I'd take the specs for that RokBox to them and see what they'd charge you. I bet it would be less than $1400, but I'm saying that without knowing what the specs are nor doing any price research online or whatever. Or call them.
