Steve Albini
Really enjoyed the SA article and interviews in the latest edition. Some years ago, the Chicago Trib ran an article on Steve and his wife around Christmas time. The nature of the article had to do with a charity thing Steve & spouse were involved in - apparently Steve liked to go to the post office and get letters to Santa and then select a few to donate money or gifts to. I always thought that was the coolest thing to do. The post office was planning on ending that by not giving out "Santa" letters to strangers - effectively ruining his charity. I don't know what he's been doing since then but I applaud him for doing that. Seems like a real human being to me. Steve you're welcome at my house for musician soup and a beer any time!

Part of my incentive for doing this interview with Steve was to show someone more than the character he's been made out to be by lazy journalists. He's a fascinating musician, excellent recordist, and a smart dude who thinks about things. Sure, there may seem to be contradictions in his statements, but hell, I'm full of that too.

Awesome! I really enjoyed this article as well. He is a pretty outspoken guy and come across as abrasive, but I just love the records he makes. It was nice to hear that In Utero situation in greater detail, too. Such a shame. If the record companies were trying to go after more underground acts why wouldn't they let them put out a genuine sounding record?
