Hey, just removed a drum machine from a Kimball 700 Swinger organ I found at a thrift shop. Drum machine was only connected to the organ by a pair of black and red wires with piece of plastic attached to them (pardon my lack of technical knowledge). I'm looking to use this drum machine as a standalone unit and wondering if anyone else has done anything similar. I'm trying to find the voltage for the plug attachment so that I don't fry the machine...I've looked up similar standalone drum machines that Hammond made and they're 120v, also found a site that claims that all kimball organs are 120v. Any advice?

do you have a multimeter? if the organ is working, (i think) you could turn it on and measure the voltage across the red and black wire terminals. It seems you're pretty confident that the red/black pair of wires is for power? I wonder how the audio gets out of the drum machine.

Another thing that would clue you in to the power issue is to see if the red and black wires are connected to a power transformer or straight to the mains cable; if they connect straight to the wall AC, then 120 would be right.

I'm no expert, so someone knowledgeable should feel free to correct me if i'm off-base.

It seems it should have at least 4 wires...I would also suspect its not 120...probably stepped down to 12 or 15. Is the organ solid state?

one wire can move power and the other audio if they each contain individually wrapped dual conductor cable. Also, the audio is likely mono....

Hey, thanks so much for the responses! I don't have access to the organ as I removed it in the thrift store and they threw the organ out, all I have is the drum machine part. I've included some jpegs of the drum machine. Is there any way of gauging the voltage with just this standalone drum machine? Also, what type of precaution should I take when plugging this in? I was thinking of building a wooden box to house the drum machine in - I'm thinking that should take care of any issues as far as getting zapped is concerned. Any further advice is greatly appreciated!

That jack next to the two wires is prob your audio out. And the eight pin plug was for some controls I assume. Unless you can find a schematic its hard to say what voltage it wants. Probably not alot because that filter cap is only 25 volts where the power is going in. Assuming that is the power wires.

Hey, found a schematic for this. Not really good with reading these things - any help here on what you think the voltage for the plug is?
