| that was on playback. I know that the MS16 also is designed to briefly mute the outputs when actually performing the punch to avoid any weird pops or whatever. but yeah this was from playback. |

I'd seek out a tech with Tascam experience and also work on picking punch points very carefully. _________________ Tony

hmm. i listened to the soundcloud clip. it doesn't seem broken to me. sounds pretty good. the out is a bit long, but it's not un-useable. here is a trick: when you are going to punch out, instead of hitting stop, try hitting rewind or ff.
You also can play around with how are you sending signal to the machine. I was working on an a80 recently that didn't do input monitoring... so I had to do the two handed thing and bus shit in confusing ways (flip the sync switch, hit record, and mute a channel maybe?). I wish I could explain how but it was just instinct and somehow it worked. Punch ins can definitely make you tighten your butthole.
Aanyway.. i may be wrong, but my vote is your machine is fine, and the punching time is just not satisfactory for you on this song. Other times it may be fine. Maybe you should bust out a razor and learn how to splice. I haven't done any editing yet, personally. _________________ Starlab |

There's an old trick of splicing in a piece of leader where the super tight punch out is. You rerecord the problem area and the stop the deck when you hit the leader, then remove the leader. Desperate times and all that. _________________ Tony

I've SEEN this done (but not done it myself) to deal with a particularly difficult piano punch (one chord running smack into the next). _________________ Modular - My most recent project. |
