I know I know I know...Everyone here is gonna look at this and say just do what sounds good...It's all about your ears etc. etc. etc...And for the most part I totally agree w/ that...I just want a good reference point to start out w/...
For example, what settings do you use on compression as far as ratio, treshold, attack, realease on different things like Overheads, snares, kick drums, guitars, etc. etc...
I'm really looking for a good compression chart or really good articles on it...IF you have any I'd love to see them ....Thanks again!
Links for good compressor settings...also eq etc.

Yeah, unfortunately, as I've found, you can't give definite answers to that. That link is a good one though to lean what compression is all about, and I strongly recommend the "Sound on Sound" articles on that website. They'll help you understand the principles and you can go on from there, good luck.
My setup: brain into muscles into hands into fingers into guitar into cable into pedal into cable into amp into air into mic into cable into box no 1 into cable into box no2

If you find a chart, the first thing you should do is throw it away...
fender amps in the 60's came with a chart that said to adjust volume for minimum distortion. its all in the eye of the beholder.

The obligatory: Use your ears! Try it! Every situation is different!
OK, so now here are the links:
Compression Kick-Start
EQ Key Frequencies
Complementary EQ
Compression in Mixing and Mastering
The Exciting Compressor
SAE Reference Material, check under "Effects"
Looks like J beat me:
The Project Studio Handbook - Compression
The project Studio Handbook - EQ
So read all of that and then as Dave suggests - forget it.

Not picking on you Soundfinesse, I understand why people ask these questions, but let me answer you, and you will see how ridiculous the concept is:
For OH: I ALWAYS use the NEVE33609 @ 1.5:1 pulling back about 4 DB,A2 release(about 8 sec, but program dependent). No matter who is playing, or what style of music, or the tempo of the song or anything. ALWAYS.
For Vocals: I ALWAYS use an 1176 @ 4:1, then maybe the 33609 limiter section, No matter what. I dont care if it is Ozzy,Lita, John Spencer, Marc Linkous,Nina persson, or the kid from up the block rapping. ALWAYS.
etc....
Everybody is different. it is not a cop out to say USE YOUR EARS, and INTUItion.
That is the FUN part? No?
If every situation was the same in this game I would have become a fucking hockey player, and then ask other hockey players what shot they would use to win the game????? I know, I know... Whatever gets the puck in the net, but really, what shot???
