anyone own or work at a studio in nashville?

Post by skratchadelic » Mon Jun 02, 2003 3:25 pm

hello all,
i'm an audio production student at ohio univeristy, but this summer i won a scholarship to study the music industry in nashville at vanderbilt university. while i'm here, i would love to help out at a studio during my free time. i am a dedicated and diligent student, and would do whatever it takes to be able to job-shadow at a facility for the next 4 weeks while i'm in town. if anyone is interested or can reccommend a studio, please email me. thank you.
sincerely,
dan

I have a friend that works at a studio in Nashville. His name is Brian Threlkheld, and I think the studio's called Blackbird... Ill find out for sure. Try looking them up, I dont know much about the place except that theyve got a Neve and they've recorded John Hiatt. Ill get back to you on the studio name for sure.

John Wheeler at Renaissance Recordings is a super cool guy and might be sympathetic to your plight...

Studios in Nashvegas are always looking for good interns and seconds. Having the desire to learn is not the only requirement, though. One really has to be willing to be the grunt, the gopher, the mic stand mover, and the cleanup crew. Hope you know how to make coffee!

Should you find a place in a Pro-level studio, you will have to learn to be fairly invisible. It's a humbling job- your opinion won't matter.

You'll meet a lot of stars. You'll have a lot of opportunities to get autographs- don't!

As someone said to me many years ago, if you are a decent person with talent, Nashville will be good to you. Let your work do the talking.

A couple of places to check out:

Omni, or Omnisound on Division just off of music row.

Pentavarit, in Berry Hill. Call Alice there. They're great people.

Sound Kitchen, about 10 miles south of the city, in Franklin/Cool Springs, is one of the big studios- about 6 rooms I guess. Ask to speak with John or Dino Elephante.

I hope you have a great summer in Nashville.
Phil
