Cat Power - Sun

Been listening to this a lot lately, love it. Catchy as hell. Interesting sonics. Here's a question for those who've heard it- the first song, cherokee, the vocals have a neat texture to them. What do you think was used for that? ev635a maybe? Also the drums on that song sound way cool, actually for the whole record. Man, I would love to know how they recorded this album.

I think that sound is a lot less about the mic, and a lot more about the treatment.

There's a lot of top-end rolled off, and quite a bit of sluggish compression/saturation like you might get from a Sta-Level or a Federal or an LA-2A or something along those lines. Kind of a classic lo-fi-ification kind of thing. You can do it with a computer too.

In comparison to a texture like this, the raw, natural, unmolested tone of 635a would sound like the pinnacle of transparency and unadulterated realism.
