Mobile Recording Studio - Airstream

Post by stephenbbrock » Sat Dec 28, 2013 12:58 pm

Greetings everyone,

I'm interested in creating a mobile recording space - essentially a CR and iso booth. Inclination is towards an inexpensive older airstream trailer, 20-30 ft, that I'd clear out and build from the ground up.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

I've seen the Ronnie Lane LMS, and while it is undeniably cool and inspiring, I was aiming for a more one-stop-shop, perhaps akin to a demo/writing room that I could take to areas with disadvantages populations and help them get their feet wet recording for inexpensive/free (depending on if I register this as a nonprofit). Rockhopper has something along these lines I checked out.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions in this early stage! 8)

Sounds awesome; hope you can figure it out. I love Airstreams just because (as-is); one with a studio inside would be over-the-top...

Definitely read the thread linked above. It will answer questions you haven't even asked yet. I read it a while back and enjoyed it even though I never considered building anything like it

I have a 7 year old studio in a 31 foot Excell. It hasn't turned out to be what I'd hoped. I suppose it would be ok for remote setups with snakes, but as a working space, it would take a hell of a lot of insulation to isolate outside sound. It might be ok on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, with a power hookup, but that's about the only place I think it would really work.
