So the following exchange started from a local bandmix ad, and I post it here to show the dangers of responding to same, as well as for your amusement:

I posted a bandmix ad what said in part:
"Looking for a band and/or writing collab - prefer original stuff; I play guitar and bass, sing and write and record. And drink."

=========================================

A shredder dude (based on his posted links) contacts me by PM and I respond:

"Thanx for your contact; I listened to your stuff at CD Baby, you're a hella player.

Not my style, tho', sorry.

I'm looking for or to start a project involving more of a "alternative", alt.cuntry, and/or funk songs approach.

But if you get a jam going and need bass or guitar, lemme know.

Best!"

=========================================
He responds:
"I can play alternative and funk. I prefer not to play country. I have a drummer. I have to ask him if he can play alternative and funk. We can get together next weekend if you want. We practice in New XXXX.'

=========================================
Me:
"Well, aiighty then!

What day, time?"

=========================================
He:
"I tried contacting my drummer but he didn't respond. He must be busy with his day job. We don't really need him. Do you want me to come to your studio? Do you wanna add the bass to my cd? Do you wanna write music and record? What are you trying to do? Be specific. Also will your drinking interfere with this? I prefer that you do not drink if and when I come to your studio. Lemme know thanks!"

=========================================
Me:
"Not interested, good luck."

=========================================
He:
"Stop viewing my ad!"

=========================================
Me:
"You obviously have problems, as I have only looked at your "ad" twice, before I contacted you.

Do not contact me again."

=========================================
He:
"You have a drinking problem not me. You looked at my ad twice too many times."

=========================================
Me:
"Fuck off, you nutjob - again, stop contacting me."

This is a good reminder that Craigslist is a good place for some sad comedy. I usually avoid it because it's usually filled with way better and more deserving engineers than me looking for work. That's when I lose the comedy and just get sad.

I do see some ads that are confusing. Look, if you're looking for someone to work for you do have any typos! I saw one recently that said any engineers that wanted to work for them couldn't work at any pro or home studio.They didn't reply when I asked why.

All that said, I need to check out CL again...

More:

He:
"Stop texting me. You texted me from an Indiana zip code and your ad says you are in Illinois. I do not need your help finding bass players I can find them myself. And why would you wanna help me find a bass player? Are you not a bass player? DO NOT CONTACT ME ANYMORE I AM NOT INTERESTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

=========================================
Me:
"Look, douchebag, you are mixing me up with someone else as I've never texted you, and my name (despite your message to me on bandmix) is not "Scott".

So take your shite attitude and ignorance and fuck off and stop stalking me - DO NOT CONTACT ME AGAIN."

I've not heard from him again, so I guess he got the point.

Also, and as I expected, he's obviously not a TOMB reader. Twisted Evil

The other beautiful thing about Bandmix is that they will never, ever take your ad down, or take you out of their system, long after you've made it clear that you no longer want to be part of the situation/closed your account/sent the e-mail saying "unsubscribe."

For two to three years after I first posted something there, people were still contacting me, regardless of the (obvious and past-due) date of the ad. I STILL get e-mails from Bandmix at one of my accounts, even though I've "unsubscribed" several times. A page out of the MySpace profile-hostage plan book, apparently...

Mebbe not a band thing as I am perpetually needing a band, what with my drinking problem ...

I really must amend my posting to say,"Sense of humor required, or fuck off."

Dude, you've been confusing Illinois for Indiana. Don't treat this so lightly.
