I'd like to know what you think of these:

(Do you think the mic placement is too close? I was in a very tight recording space.)

flutes have always been difficult for me to record.

Thanks.

Sounds pretty good to me. Not a ton of room sound, but the imaging is crisp. The room around the piano (in the last recording with the flute) was nice.

Listening to the Shastakovich. Pretty good imaging. The balance is OK, but compare the 1st violin to the viola. The viola really cuts through, often surpassing the 1st violin, which has a smaller, slightly more distant sound.

The tight space is fine, and the direct v. ambient balance isn't outside what's acceptable. The string sound is anemic though. How was it recorded? What microphones did you use?

Looking forward to more samples.

Sorry I didn't respond to this so long ago.

I used AT4050 mics in the Blumlein configuration.

I was about 6 feet from the musicians. The floor is linoleum and there was a tall ceiling right above the players but not above where the mics were.

AT4050s are great mics! Gotta be careful though, because they can sound very small when used in figure-8. Maybe best in figure-8 only when close miking? Thanks for sharing!
