All you older folks........

I keep reading Oberheim DMX but I don't think the kick and snare sound like a DMX at all.

Here's the song (1985):

It's a Roland TR-808.

Thanks Analogika but it certainly is not a TR-808.

they're very 'rock' sounding samples. are there any of those on an 808?

A quick Google search references a "Roland drum machine," but elsewhere a "Korg drum machine."

My brother had a Kawai machine that had some of those paxxed-out, super-compressed sounds; I forget the model number...

BTW, it's not "older folks"... It's "More Experienced." "Mature" can also work, depending on context.

check out the Korg KPR-77

that song might be that coupled with an 808 (and probably other things too)

Speak for yourself, MoreSpace...

Just because I bought vinyl when that was not an option, but the only option for listening, just because I remember when CD's were the "new thing," when analog recording wasn't a boutique choice, but was simply called "recording," when Atari was the latest craze in video gaming, when Simmons came out with their first electronic kit, and broadcasting only happened on radio or television, DOESN'T make me "old," it just means I'm........

Oh, dang, anyone have an extra package of Depends??

Nope. No samples on an 808 at all.

For 1985, the limits the options a bit...I was going to say Yamaha RX5 or 7, but they apparently didn't happen until '86.

As for Linn/Obie, it could be, just with different EEPROM sounds than we usually hear.

Sorry, I said 'older' as in 'were there so might know' not 'old' as in 'old'.

The hi hats sound like a DMX so I guess it is a DMX with different kick and snare EEPROMs then. I have downloaded a bunch of sample sets of 'old' drum machines, none of them have these sounds.

If any of you know which EEPROMs to look for that would be awesome!

I swear the kick sounds like it could be from a SR-16, but that came out in '90, so I vote Roland.
