1" 2-track ultimate audio tape format, seems to be very rare format, anyone uses it here? An overkill or an analog sonic heaven?
Those huge 12.5" NAB reels playing at 45 IPS look nice got to admit
1" 2-track at 45 IPS anyone?

That does look (and sound, from what I can tell) real good. Must be pretty rare though. Never heard of it before.
But I wonder-- if 15 ips emphasizes nice bass tones, and 30 ips trades bass for crisp highs, what does 45 ips give you? I wonder if there's a level of "suck" vs. extended quality that might make the sound a lot harsher than other machines (?)... I don't know; just talking through my hat...

The same thought occurred to me too. 45 IPS really must put forth a ridiculous amounts of high frequency response. I guess with those ultra-large 1" stereo heads fit an according massive (large) cores in them and thus probably have surprisingly good extended low-end range, maybe better than we expect? I.e. Otari uses (above normal-) larger cores in their high-end heads aimed speciefically for enhanced 30 IPS low-end performance.
In any case I imagine those mids and highs are probably not crystal but diamond clear and smooth with this exotic tape format and crazy speed.

>>>>Yeah,
I wonder what it sounds like at 7.5 ips? Probably rad.<<<<
I know you're playin', but when our choices were 1 & 7/8, 3 & 3/4, or 7 & 1/2, 7 & 1/2 sounded pretty good!
