Velcro (or similar) custom cable ties

Post by CFB4 » Wed Jul 22, 2015 12:26 pm

For a while I've been making my own custom cable ties with this stuff:

http://www.thomann.de/ie/tesa_cable_manager_5m.htm

Thing is, when I loop it around the cable and glue it, sometimes the glue works loose after a while. Looking at commercially-made cable ties made with similar materials, I notice that they seem to use some kind of heating iron to melt the cable tie onto itself, thus making a much sturdier join than my glue joins are.

So my question is this: does anyone know where to get a heating device that will do this?

Thanks in advance! CFB4[/i]

It sounds like you're asking for a "hot bar" tool.

I know them from poly-bag packaging applications:

I'm not sure if that one would weld velcro, but it might help lead you in the right direction. An industrial packaging shop might have more relevant info.

monoprice also sells rolls of velcro that I love for securing cables on mic stands (such as around my drum kit). I also use them for cable ties but I just cut various lengths and loop it around since it has the "hook" on one side and the "loop" on the other. whatever color you like too...
