Right now I have a bass pedal board, and for guitar a traveler, and a home.

I reckon I could actually do a fecund bass board, and a turd guitar ...
I don't have any permanent members in my band, but I used to maintain a pedalboard for each of five or six stations. Two guitars, bass, a ring-mod chain multiplying one guitar by the bass, an FX mic... Each one either included a SansAmp (or clone) or went to a V-amp. Then anybody I found who would put up with my bullshit could step into whatever slot was best for them and only maybe have to bring an instrument.

I still have all those pedals, but I've pulled them all apart except my own personal board, and the dude that's been playing bass with me for a while keeps the pile he's picked out in a bag. Why he insists on re-plugging the whole damn thing every time we play is beyond me, but whatever.

I am working in the direction of all-software. Eventually gonna hack a couple Korg NanoKontrols into pedalboard looking things and run everything in Reaper. It's on the list of projects...

Gonna have to watch that some time when I can actually listen to it.

I replaced my V-Amps and analog mixer with a micro-ATX PC and a Tascam US1642 interface. Basically went from a massively overbuilt 8 space rack that I refused to lift on my own to a more normal 6 space rack that's not actually full and weighs about exactly as much as I'm willing to carry at one time on my own.

At the same time I added Guitar>MIDI synth fun without having to add hardware which would not have fit in the rack. I never would have been able to pull off the sort of things I'm doing now with automated "harmonies" and "octave squishing" and etc with the hardware I own.

Last time I had a live person hitting drum triggers, I brought the old D4 out, and I keep it set up that way in the studio, but I'm pretty confident I could just use a couple spare mic inputs and one of the JS drum triggers into Superior Drummer if I needed to. But, we've lately been using a way of modulating the velocity of various drums (hitting pre-programmed patterns) from various live instruments, and at the same time I trigger some other "accent" drums while playing guitar, so we haven't even thought about finding a dedicated human for "percussive timing cues and dynamic effects" in quite a while.

Edit - 2 big things are keeping us from migrating away from pedals:
1) I'm not completely sure that even the new 3.9G quad will run all the plugins we'd want without massive latency or just crapping out, and

B) I'm procrastinating actually building the controllers. It's a relatively simple hack, really, but it's a bunch of fiddly steps. I'm tearing apart a Behringer mixer to get all the jacks and pots that I need/want, and will need to buy some toggles, then find or make some suitable enclosure, then actually start soldering...

And I got all kind of more pressing crap to do, and pedals that just do it for now, so...

Would you get usable jacks froma Behringer mixer? I seem to recall the 'knobs' actually have a shaft on them that mates to a PCB mounted trimmer, may be mis-remembering.

If you want cheap pots, I'd buy from Tayda.

The jacks should work well enough as long as I don't tear them apart trying to remove them. The pots in this one are small, and have plastic shafts, but not trimmers. If I was going to buy, I'd go to Mouser, but I've got this board and this heat gun. :)

Split A/B, dirty and "clean", one amp (Fender Princeton Reverb):

Sabine RT-1601 tuner -

Dirty side:
Chandler (Butler) Tube Driver
Fuzz Face iss.1 replica with AC128s (homemade)
Black Cat OD-Fuzz, first edition
Thomas CryBaby w/ true bypass mod
MXR 1500 Digital Delay

Clean side:
TS-808 reissue
Timmy replica (homemade)
Black Cat Mini-Trem
EH Small Clone (vintage, 1981)
EH Small Stone (vintage, 1979)
MXR Flanger (Vintage, 1981)
EH Deluxe Memory Man (2005 reissue)
Echoplex EP-3

The board was made out of a single sheet of pine, a edged with aluminum C channel strips, mitred and filed. Power strip is just a simple 9-outlet SL Waber (I call it my EJ power strip). Some of the permanent pedals are screwed down to the board using the bicycle chain-link method. The rest tend to get swapped around with stuff in the "queue", which consists of:

ToneBender MkII Pro (homemade)
Foxx Tone Machine (homemade)
SunnFace (analogman re-house)
Black Cat D&S
MXR Analog Delay (vintage)
Boss CE-2 Chorus
Ibanez CE-505 Chorus
Dunlop Fuzz Face JHF1

This is really just a home-use board, I don't gig... I just like building stuff.

Anyone have a suggestion for a 'pedal board' that contains a mixer?

Image

I thought about using a flight case I have for a mixer and just turning it upside down, but that's still pretty big. Stripped down, I can put the pedals and cables in a bag and the mixer in a laptop backpack. But it means setup is kinda fraught.

Well, when on bass I often play an Ampeg PF500. I transport that inna double pistol case, so you might consider something similar. The third picture in my last post is a Samsonite briefcase; the top board goes in an ancient vinyl-covered wood brief case.

I have seen some usable stuff at home-builder stores, like Lowe's, Menard's, Home Depot, etc. The second and fourth pictures use shelving as the board; the second uses a cooking grate screwed onto a piece of wood. I've seen some usable toolboxes there, also.
