Cassette Spindle Hub replacements?

Post by CV_Wonder » Wed Oct 14, 2015 11:06 am

Hello,

Does anyone know where to get spindle hub replacements or even parts that could possibly be rigged into place of a spindle hub?

Thank you!

The bit on the deck, or the bit on the cassette itself?
The previous statement is from a guy who records his own, and other projects for fun. No money is made.

Sorry should have been clear. I'm actually just looking for any spindle hubs at all. Making an sound/art project. I've been told they are no longer made but cant even find an old stock supply anywhere. Plastic or metal, not sure if there even are metal ones.

Even so, it's still somewhat unclear which part you're looking for.

Do you want

A: the circular thingy inside the cassette that the tape winds around, with the 6 little teeth on the interior opening?

or

B: the pointy thing that's part of the player, that interfaces with said 6 little teeth?
"What fer?"
"Cat fur, to make kitten britches."

Forgot to insert the word "player" in there :) A spindle hub, (I've been told) is the part inside a cassette player. B: The pointy thing that's part of the player. Are they both called that btw?

Quickly miss-read your sentence somehow.. Yes the part on the deck.

Do they have to be able to rotate or just hold a cassette tape?

I don't know of any source for new ones.

Long ago, the trick to manually winding a tape was to use a Bic pen. They were just the right size.

It might also be a candidate for a 3D printed part.

You could cut sections of a bic and stickit on a motor?

Sorry, all I have to add is, I love this website. I clicked on tape machines and ran into a ?.Korg Polymoog?

https://tapeline.info/v2/korg-polymoog.html

And a touch overpriced for a non-restored one IMHO...

If you can find or make a 3D model of the part you want, I could print it on my 3D printer.

I'll see how the bic pen thing goes, a bit worried about performance so the 3D printed hub is an excellent call! thx

Love that they wanted it to be made by Korg. Ha!

Yea that is a bit overpriced, and I have the better version already :D

Thanks so much for the offer on the 3D! I'll see if I can get something sorted but It's looking like I probably need a lot of these for this project....
