Best way to speed up a mix without altering pitch?

I got a song which is already mixed down, but I think I prefer it just a little bit faster than it was recorded. I record in Logic X, so I imported the stereo mixdown into a new logic project, and played around with the varispeed tool. When increasing speed+pitch, it sounds great. But I don't want to enter chipmunk land. With just increase in speed, the audio has significant artifacts. Does anyone know a good way to do this? Or should I just leave it to the mastering person...

I've not used Logic lately, but there's a load of different algorithms out there to do this in various DAWs. I personally find that Reason, of all programs, has one of if not the best I've used for minimal artifacts and not screwing up the time.


Modern Pro tools is pretty good too if you do it right.


It is, though, a compromise of course no matter what.

It might be better to print out stems of your song, and time stretch those (for example, Reason/other programs has different algorithms for different sources) individually rather than the whole 2 track mix.

Bounce the mix, import it into a new project with the same BPM, and use flex time to increase the speed.
