JHS COLOR BOX HONEST OPINIONS

Post by thepsychedelicdollhouse » Sun Dec 13, 2015 2:07 pm

Is this pedal good or hype? Would be using it for home studio. I have a soundtrax board. would this purchase be redundant?

If it's like any other JHS I've owned (being that's he's a local hero, I have owned and sold 3 of his pedals) I would expect overpriced hype with a lot of weird religious overtones. I would be surprised if is a lot removed from the Golden Age stuff, because when I was at his shop he had a bunch of that stuff sitting around awhile before that product was announced, and he has a rep of copying everyone.

EHX has a new Crayon pedal.
JHS has a new Crayon pedal.

LOL.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Not even the reference I was trying to make, but...true story.

Considering two out of the three responses I have to ask the question.....What pedal achieves the same goals as the Colorbox without the hefty price tag?

Just buy a cheap little Mackie/Yamaha/Behringer/whatever mixing board and run your guitar straight into it. Overdrive the preamp to taste.

A friend of mine has one and it sounds good, but I went to check out their website and there's a lot of extremely misleading information on the site about that box. They basically imply that all these hit records feature guitar sounds recorded direct through a Neve console and then list all these specific hits that had nothing at all to do with Neves. Let me tell you, there's a BIG difference between a Neve 1272 and a Telefunken V72 or an RCA BC2B.

Yeah, it's really kind of jive.

With a nearly total blackout of specs, seems most audio stuff is based on jive.

The "I got a box that can make you sound better than you really are" sort of crap does get old after a while. I miss the pro's in this biz.
