Converting Tascam 388 to Stereo Master

Post by RuggerDrummer » Wed Jan 06, 2016 1:14 pm

What is the best way to convert a mixed recording from the Tascam 388 to a Stereo Master?

The manual recommends a two track recorder whose quality is comparable to the 388 (Tascam 22-2 & Tascam 32).

Are there any other good two track machines out there that would be comparable?

Also what about bouncing it to a computer? Exactly how do ya'll recommend doing this with either a two track or to a computer?

Thanks,

Zack

Computer is fine, I always go to computer but I bounce the individual tracks and mix in the computer.

I bounce to computer as well, but I mix all my tracks on the 388 and use the RCA outs. I have Focusrite Saffire 6 interface for my computer so I just use RCA>1/4" cables... works great for me!!

Good luck and have fun with it!

just run the XLR or balanced 1/4" outputs into your DAW interface or a 2 track reel.

I used an Otari MX5050 2 track and it sounded good. But honestly with the quality of that recorder i didn't notice a ton of difference between bouncing to 2 track tape and to DAW. the color is in the TASCAM preamps and head bump, i don't think dumping to 2 track tape did much. If it did it over i'd just do it straight to computer.

I go from the 388 into a Tascam CD/RW 700 CD recorder and burn my mixes straight to disc.
