Hey all! I should probably post this over at drummerworld (though I don't have an account), or on GS' drum forum but I thought I'd try here first in case I can get the answer I need without going through all that...
I'm looking for information about the 24" ride(s) Elvin Jones played. Does anyone know A) what time period or albums he might have played one on, and B) what kind of ride(s) they were. I understand that there was at least one old K at some point, but I seem also to remember hearing about him playing a big Paiste like Bonham.
Anyone with this historical knowledge out there over here?
I'm mostly just curious.
Thanks!
Elvin Jones' 24" ride

I would have just assumed K Zildjian, and if not, just a large A (like everyone else seemed to use at the time).
But, here's a guy claiming to have the very cymbal-- a 24" Istanbul K "hand-selected by Elvin Jones," and he does a fair EJ impression to boot. See what you think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ccBisAgUAM .

Yeah, I saw that, and that is indeed a very nice sounding K. I'm just trying to put it into context of recordings I know if it belongs there. I don't usually geek out on vintages of instruments that so and so famous musical icon played where, but this one is in the back of my head from time to time.

I would think that the cymbal in the video (complete guess with no provenance or historical context, mind you), if Elvin's, would have to be from the mid to late "Jazz Machine" period. Are you talking during that time, or earlier Coltrane and/or freelance stuff?
