Wanting Uad plugs do i buy Apollo or satellite

Post by Boomer81 » Wed Apr 06, 2016 5:15 pm

I want to get uAd plugs. And I need 16 i/o to run through my ghost 24.

Right now
I have a less than a year old motu 828 mk3 hybrid and a apogee Rosetta 800 192k.

Should I keep those and get a uAd Octo satellite or sell them both and get a Apollo 16. Or sell the 828mk3 and get a Apollo 8 quad

I think the conversion I have now would be on par I have extra pres with the 828 and I can expand to 8 more channels I/0 and have the ability to use usb and FireWire 800 and the apogee 800 sounds great. Either way I'm looking at spending $1500-2k thanks to all

The UA stuff works a lot better with Thunderbolt. You get a lot more plugin 'instances'

With that budget, I'd have you get the Thunderbolt UAD and a few extra plug ins.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

I think the Apollo conversion would be an upgrade to your existing stuff, both the 828 and the Rosetta are older tech. The modern Motu AVB line uses chips that are more inline with the Apollo, but the 828 does not.

I agree that if you need to use UAD plugins, starting with an Apollo seems like the best way to go.

Then you eyeball that pair of octo's and the catalogue of plugins. "You can check in..."

well the satellite will be on thunderbolt. the 828 firewire 800 through the thunderbolt port. and i could add another rosetta and get 24 i/o. and twice as much power as the apollo 16. but the 16 is very tempting
