DAKING and Tape Op Magazine

Post by roscoenyc » Wed May 18, 2016 5:51 am

DAKING has been running an add in the back of Tape Op for more than a year that talks about their "New Console".

Way more than a year later there is still nothing on their website about the console?

Just bizarre.
That is all.

I think it's safe to say there will not be a console.

Sad, it could have been interesting.
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

It's safe to say that the print has to be done reasonably in advance, and maybe if they want that spot they have to commit to a time frame.

How long was it that UAD had ads for a thunderbolt addon for the original Apollo, or for Soundtoys 5 coming soon?

Not uncommon, engineering, especially at small shops, takes awhile.

I daydream about being super villain rich and having a studio with different forgotten consoles. Like a depraved menagerie.
The Daking could be a sidecar with that Vintec c3 all tube job.

Nice, but not evil villain enough. I need something carved in the side of a mountain by virgins with large breasts and four kids. Someplace that Donald Fagan goes, "oh I dunno if I can..." and I roll out a Mitsubishi 32 track "yogurt machine" and a handful of QM-69s...

Sorry, I lost consciousness for a bit....

I've been in touch with Geoff recently regarding this console. Here's what he had to say:

You are correct, the info is not on the site yet, but will be shortly. We build consoles to custom order and presently have 5 in the works.

Prices are more than a comparably equipped 1608 and much less than a 5088. We have a compressor on every channel and a routing scheme that is much more user friendly for DAW recording.

So I'm guessing this console is going to be in the $60k range. It looks quite stunning and I expect it sounds amazing. I've always been impressed with Daking products.

Thanks for the info.
We have a pair of their comps at the studio and we like them a lot.

They had a console at one of the TapeOp Conferences in Tucson one year. John B. has one at The Hangar. I just assumed they'd been readily available for the last ten years or so.

Dude pays for print ads. He should update his website. It's silly.
