F TRUMP - (Political song) in need of mix feedback.

Post by Robertt8 » Thu Apr 13, 2017 1:44 pm

*UPDATED 4/23/17*

*Hey guys! I updated this again, and removed the distorted vocals, tweaked some levels and gave more click to the kick. I've also added a 2nd version where I've removed the profanity...if that sort of thing bothers you.*

Regardless if you like Trump or not, we have a tune we?re about to give away, and I?d love some feedback on overall mix balance and if it sounds like the low end is ok.

I?m not looking for a political conversation, this is all about the mix.

Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Since nobody can understand the words, here they are in case you wanted some light reading... :)

I can?t believe, all the people that voted for trump
He?s full of shit, man it?s all made up.
He?s sittin, getting fat, praying, watching Faux News
Propaganda TV, white supremacist views.

Too damn stubborn, to See through the lies
Got a snake-oil peddler with Hitler?s eyes.
Fuck his little hands, the little shit?s insecure
Steve Bannon?s doling out his new world cure

F trump (F trump)
We?re millions strong
Not buying that shit they?re passing along
F trump (F trump)
Got the brains on our side
Hate is just a place where the weak ones hide

A room full billionaires don?t know we need
Changing all the policies to suit their own greed.
You really think his picks gonna give fat fuck
I got a bridge I?d like to sell you, man, let?s take a walk

Orange little bitch is gonna build a big wall
He saaaaays Mexico?s gonna pay for it all
He must be smoking crack, taking us for a ride
A fifty dollar ladder gonna get you to the other side

F trump (F trump)
We?re millions strong
Not buying that shit they?re passing along
F trump (F trump)
Got the brains on our side
Hate is just a place where the weak ones hide

Russian mother fucker / taking us for a sucker
Can?t wait to see the video tape
Banning all the Muslims / stuck. in line at customs
It?s gonna be a red letter day

Psychopaths in Congress passing all of their bills
Religious right wingers controlling the hill
The good people fucked while Trump just gloats
The church owns us now cuz didn't vote

We?re millions strong
Not buying that shit they?re passing along

I wish you'd cut some hi-mids from that acoustic guitar so I could hear the lyrics better. Everything has a sibilant quality that I don't enjoy, but that could be a taste thing. But definitely Fuck Trump. I've written the same song in my head about 100 times.

Catchy tune.

Regarding the mix: good overall. I dig the balance, though the left acoustic guitar is a bit out on its own. I'd probably move other elements between it and center to fill that space a bit more. Maybe a reverb/delay return panned there or something?

Also the upper bass is a bit muddy, like 300-400Hz ish. You could get that in mastering maybe. EDIT: on second listen, I'm pretty sure this mud is coming from the bass track. Maybe a cut in that freq range on the bass, and maybe a bit more higher up, 1kish, to bring it out a bit more to compensate?

A couple of sort of harsh-ish frequencies in there, higher up in the midrange. You could probably also get those in mastering too.

You should play in the band that vvv's friend is trying to start.

Oh yeah, mixing songs is good.

Hey guys!

I did take some of your suggestions into consideration and I?m updating the track.

Do you guys think the track is too sibilant? I can de-ess or soften it up a bit.

I pulled tried to pull out a little mud and cut a bit of the high-end that I feel was crunching a bit.

This version any better?

Hey guys!

Thanks for the feedback. As mentioned in my initial post above, I did some fairly major tweaking, including...removed the distorted vocals, tweaked some levels and gave more click to the kick. I've also added a 2nd version where I've removed the profanity...if that sort of thing bothers you.

If you get a chance, check it out and let me know if you think these edits have improved it at all

Thanks!
Tait
