I read that too, and thought it was interesting. I have a problem with it though that I can't quite articulate. I think it has to do with me not believing that "free markets" necessarily result in a meritocracy or that we even have free markets in this world we live in. There are plenty of shitty, unskilled bands that sell a lot of records and the converse. As well as bands that are technically shitty, but ultimately awesome in some way. I dunno. It was interesting though.
