Podcast Levels

Post by A.David.MacKinnon » Fri Jun 23, 2017 4:59 am

I'm working on a podcast at the moment (which is a bit outside my regular work world). It's more or less a radio drama with 10-12 actors, score music, sound effects and the whole deal. Things are going well but I'm approaching final mix time and wondering if there is a standard for levels for this type of thing. I'm aiming to average at -18 for most of the mix and then plan to bump it up with a mastering limiter for the final output.
Does this sound reasonable? Any suggestions for levels?

I usually use K14 for everything, but for a podcast I'd be tempted to use K20 since there are (hopefully) way more dynamics than most modern music.

I think most everyone is gravitating towards -16 LUFS now (meaning -16 dBFS.)

Cheers

Thanks guys. I found a good LUFS meter plug and went with -16. So far so good.
