Futura is my favorite typeface, so I think it looks good on anything. Perhaps a bold version of Univers?

you could always just use comic sans and call it a day...

wow. i don't really like the whole indie singer/songwriter genre, but i just listened to every song on your myspace page and am totally digging it. perhaps the myspace mp3 encoding is hiding some details, but if you hadn't said anything, i wouldn't have suspected that you used "cheap" mics. i'm an a...

Am I the only person in the world who owns and enjoys a Tapco Squeez? Anyway the Squeez certainly meets the 'low price' criterion. It does what a cheap compressor should, and handles balanced, etc. wow! i've been wondering if anybody had ever used one of these. what's the skinny on this piece? i wo...

some people will tell you to beware of the whole mLan game, but i love my yamaha i88x (1u, 8in/8out, ADAT, SPDIF, MIDI, 2 great pres with inserts). the 01x is similar, but in mixer format (with some DSP effects i believe). you would have to buy used, but the i88x can easily be had for under $400 and...

i saw the LA Guitar Quartet in concert a couple of months back and live, they just use a Neumann SDC (looked like a KM 184) on each guitar. on their latest studio album, most of it was captured with Royer and AEA ribbons. Their live show sounded just fine, but i'm going to pick up a chinese ribbon a...

i think he's talking about the True systems P-Solo Ribbon pre. after a quick search, it looks like bayview pro audio is selling them for $645 (B&H photo has the original P-Solo for around $560). i found a really limited shootout several months back and the p-solo was my favorite over stuff like the ...

M67 prices through the roof!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250203504235&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 either all the buzz on this board has caused a massive spike in price, or this guy is a complete idiot and charging about $3,960 more than this is worth. i'd be willing to sell mine to a fellow tape-oper for...

i say leave the background noises where they are - their coolness comes from not quite being able to pick up all of it. if you bumped up the level it may seem too random or out of place.

bellari makes a small pre called the MP105 that runs around $100 (you can get it at MF). never used one, but it has 75db of gain, which should be enough to get a good level out of a ribbon and i do believe the tube runs at full voltage (there is an IC in the output stage).

i'm pretty sure that's what the Naiant MSH-4 was. i think he used a sub-miniature tube that ran on phantom power, so there was no external PSU needed. he is actually working on a new line and has discontinued the MSH series, but he may have a schematic or something he would send you.
