Larry Crane on Lynda.com = Great

Lots of great tips on Lynda.com from Larry. I am learning a lot. I really liked the lesson on figure eight micing techniques for acoustic guitar and vocals. Plus, a lot of gems like using a mic stand and packing blanket as a quick gobo. No, I don't work for Larry - but appreciate him sharing his kno...

Thanks all for the replies which have all been very helpful. The Dell was my first thought along with PC Audio Labs. I currently have a sweetwater creation station which has been okay but they are expensive. There have been a few clunky moments that may have attributed to Sonar, not necessarily the ...

I am also noticing that PCs are now being made without PCI slots. I see PCIe, but not PCI. My RME Multiface is PCI. Though I can change it out to a PCIe, it would cost another $500 for an new card. PC Audio Labs and Sweetwater do build units with PCI.

I hear ya loud and clear kslight. Since I hadn't purchased a PC in years given my creation station is still going strong - (but a tad limited), I didn't know if the developments within the consumer PC world are strong enough to buy off the shelf. Is there a reference for those who want to build an a...

PC Options

Have any of you had great luck with a store bought PC being used in a professional setting where you make a little bit of money? Let me clarify, instead of buying a custom PC from our audio specialty folks (sweetwater etc...) at twice the cost, would you now buy, for example, an ASUS I7 16GB Quad Co...

BTW - I light piped out of the ADAT machine just using the converter last night and recorded some drums. It didn't sound bad - not great, but good enough to mike a hi hat or an extra tom if needed. Mic > Board > ADAT > RME Now I am debating on getting an AI3 and having it modded or an octopre. :roll...

Alesis Adat Recorder vs AI3

I have a Tango 24 that I light pipe into my RME Multiface II which gives me a total if 16 inputs (8 Tango and 8 RME =16). I can use any pre-amp with in any of the 16 inputs with this config. Unfortunately, the Tango 24 gave out. Here is the catch. I have an ALESIS 8 track machine that I can light-pi...

LA has a million cool neighborhoods and a million musicians. Some people cast judgment too soon on LA based on their minimal exposure to their surroundings.
Maybe explore LA and the surrounding cities a little more, However, the club scene is the worst I've seen in a long time.

My Opinion Only: To be involved in the "industry;" the money making entity, you would need to develop a thicker skin than what you have demonstrated while dancing on the parameter. Having stuck my head in and out rather quickly, I realized the biz doesn't have much to do with creativity or comapssio...

Carl - I love your stuff - I'm glad you wrote a song about it and not act on it. That's why we're musicians - otherwise who knows what we would be doing.

Also, If meds work, there is no disputing it and more power to you. Do what you need to do and keep on being creative. Peace - C
