Re: Richard Buckner - Shine

... Last night, while perusing at the Boston Virgin MegaStore's going-out-of-business 50% off sale (tangent: holy crap! There is hardly anywhere to buy cd's anymore in Boston! The times they are a changin') ... I don't mean to hijack this thread (and I'd love to hear more about Buckner's records), ...

Athens GA

In my quest to find a place in which to settle down, at least for a few years, I'm now looking at Athens. I'm more of a music fan and playing/recording hobbyist than anything else and I'd like to live in a not-too-big place with a decent indie-rock-type music scene, studios run by Tape Op folks, and...

It's not dead, but the prices need to come WAY down real soon. Like they were supposed to 20 years ago. If I could buy a CD for $7 or $8 ...I'd buy a lot more of them. I agree with you and would love to see CDs come down. The movie industry is doing things right with cheap DVDs. That said, I price ...

Funny - I just got a "free" guitar today from Guitar Center - a Yamaha E-325 acoustic. I had to buy a 10-pack of D'Addario EXP strings for $100 to get it, but I'll need strings anyway. I checked other online retailers and this guitar goes for around $140 and the strings go for $9.95 a set, so I feel...

Mario C. was in issue #27, January / February 2002. Great issue - included J Mascis, Spoon, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and the New Pornographers. My top five favorites that come to mind are: * East River Pipe in issue #1. I was, and still am, a big fan and ordered the magazine just for that interview. ...

Forgive me if I'm straying a bit from the original poster's point... I once played played something of mine for a friend who didn't really know anything about recording or music production. I tried show him how the mix was built and different instrumental parts of the recording. On it was a high-cap...

I'm totally up for any kind of DC get-together. I don't have a space to offer, as my situation is similiar to Weatherbox's, but I'm new in town and would love to meet some Tape Op types.

Cookie Jar looks impressive, but I'd email them and ask about their recording credits & experience. Also, note that the webpage has a 2004 copyright on it - are they still in business and still offering that $250 rate? Best of luck!

I'm moving to DC, so I'd love to meet some DC folks. I'm packing up now, hitting the conference next weekend, then it's on to DC later in June.
