There is a good discussion of panning and panpots in Handbook for Sound Engineers, The New Audio Cyclopedia, Chapter 23 written by Steve Dove. In it he writes: "Somewhere between these two extremes (if extremes is the right expression for a 6-dB difference) should lie a happy medium at which the sig...

Re: 1/4" tape alignment question for the pros...
This is getting very confusing. There is only one eq curve for 30ips. AES. There are two major eq curves for 15ips. NAB and CCIR. John, I would think that the switch in your tape deck for NAB or CCIR would only apply for 15ips and it would automatically go to AES when set for 30ips. There are answer...

Re: mixer power supply transformer is humming
I had the same problem with my Neotek power supply and also with a Furman voltage regulator. I went to the hardware store and got neoprene washers and de-coupled the transformer from the case. This greatly reduced the buzzing in the room.

Re: UREI 7110.. anyone else love this thing as much as i do?
You're right. I just looked in the manual, page 9, ""The optional output transformer converts the unbalanced output of the 7110 to a balanced, floating output. The part number to order is UREI # 16-14550." I've had one of these compressors for 12 years and have always been meaning to order the outpu...

Re: Bulk Eraser
If you run GP9 at +6, the MOL (Maximum Output Level) is much higher than 456 at +6. Even if you are not slamming the meters the GP9 will be recording transients that much higher. I would think, especially if you are mixing down from a digital source, you would want to take advantage of the tape 'com...

Re: Bulk Eraser
" Can anybody offer advice? " Yes, don't use GP9. Seriously! There is nothing wrong with +6 tapes (Quantegy 456 , Emtec 911, etc.) and you won't need a bulk eraser. The 440 may not even have enough bias current for GP9 and it will not have enough erasure depth to take advantage of the extra headroom...
