Try again for sure. He just took in a crazy drum machine/amp combo (Nomad Time Tapper) for my bandmate. You may have just been lost in the shuffle.
Wow, that thing looks like all sorts of fun.

Re: Tascam 424 mk1 Power Supply

Glad to see you made some progress with the repair! I sent a message to introduce myself after reading about ECH in this thread - Carl sent me a reply the same day. I'd suggest trying again. Speaking as someone who runs a repair business, sometimes messages get lost in the shuffle or get sent to sp...

Re: Tascam 424 mk1 Power Supply

I reached out to the ECH guy but never heard back. Made a bit of progress on my own. Resoldering the DC jack allowed me to at least get the unit powered on. The metal trace has actually pulled away from the PCB, which is a somewhat common issue from what I've read. The next problem was that none of ...

Sold my Vox AC15. It was a toss up between that and my Princeton Reverb. Still not sure I made the right choice.

Re: BEATLES GET BACK DISCUSSION

Also, and perhaps slightly OT, but there’s a great podcast called One Sweet Dream which challenges a lot of the commonly circulated Beatles lore. Definitely worth checking out if you are a fan.

Re: BEATLES GET BACK DISCUSSION

Just finished Part 2 and I'm loving it so far. Watching them working out parts is fascinating. It really feels like being in the same room as them. Even though I know how it ends, I still think I'll be sad when it's over. Wish we could get a similarly in-depth look at the making of Revolver, Pepper,...

Re: So, uh, what's the vocal mic?

That’s a Didrik de Geer microphone. Crazy expensive and only about 35 made, IIRC. There are some old forum threads kicking around the internets. I remember there was a bit of controversy surrounding them at one point.

Re: Cleaning the goddamned studio

My first thought after I finished is I wanted to mess with my synth and my pedal board, but that I'd better mic up my little amp in case something unique was coming out. Then I thought, "Shit, I'm already messing it up again." This is the constant battle I have at my place. I love the idea of a stu...

Re: McCartney 3,2,1

Concise, uncluttered arrangements are what I find most lacking in modern popular music. The Beatles recorded output shows amazing arrangements through their whole career. Even when Phil Spector layered stuff on it was done in very specific ways. Every step of modern recording technology has done aw...

Re: Tascam 424 mk1 Power Supply

Thanks Jack. I’m in Ontario, Canada. Not sure how much I can afford to sink into repairs at the moment, so I’m going to start by taking closer look at the guts to make sure there’s nothing glaringly obvious going on inside.

Thanks,

C

Tascam 424 mk1 Power Supply

I just acquired a Tascam 424 mk1 with no AC adapter. I've got one of these, which I thought would be a suitable substitute: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B071P4DKL3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I just noticed the picture on the Amazon page shows a center positive connector, whi...

Re: Aiight, so we're a lotta musos here

I’ve got an old Sony SRA-3 tube preamp that is temperamental and noisy, but can also sound amazing as a dirt/fuzz box. Particularly on bass.

Re: Mixing Headphones

The recording that I did that reached the broadest audience was mixed on AKG K240s. They currently retail for about half of what they used to. This is what I’m using too, although I’ve admittedly never mixed a full song on headphones alone. I think I mostly just like the K240s because they’re comfo...
