Same, unless it's my own shit, then it's a year.
+1. On a typical rock mix, it's usually about 6 hours before I have something I'm fairly happy with. Then it gets sent to the artist for feedback, followed by an hour (or less, if I'm lucky) of tweaks.

+1. I've used one for close to 10 years. A bit scratchy at times, but still working.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Earthquaker Rainbow Machine and Acapulco Gold, as well as this cool EV shotgun mic. Now I just need to build a proper mount for it.

Re: 500 series racks - how much power do I need?

If you're handy with a soldering iron you can buy an 11-space rack kit with PSU from CAPI for about $420. Should have more than enough juice for a rack of preamps.

Re: Recommend Me Some Room Tuning Software

If you're just looking for room analysis, REW seems to be pretty good (and it's free). If you're looking for corrective software, Sonarworks gets a lot of praise. I just bought their calibrated reference mic, and am planning to download the demo this week. You can probably get in the ballpark using ...

Is there any reason you can't just reamp it again? Seems like the easiest solution, rather than compromising.
I might end up taking this route. The bass cab at my studio isn't amazing which is why I haven't done that, but renting one might be worthwhile since I'd probably only need it for a day.

Re: Reamped Bass Phase Issue

Wow, thanks everyone for these replies. I'll touch on a few points here. If you're in digital try zooming way in on both wave forms (di and amp). Is one slightly delayed? If that's the case, what happens when you slide one signal to line up with the other? What happens when you do that and then reve...

Reamped Bass Phase Issue

I recently worked on a handful of tracks where the bass guitar was recorded through a DI, with plans to reamp later in a better room with better equipment and a better engineer than myself. The DI signal was sent out to the amp and captured with a single mic, between 4' and 6' away. Now that I'm in ...

388 into Pro Tools

Hey Gang, Is it possible to record onto the 388 while simultaneously dumping the recorded (delayed) signal into Pro Tools? Right now I'm going out of an external preamp into the PGM Buss In. I've tried using the Tape Outs but wasn't getting any signal. I've also tried the PGM Buss outs. I've got sig...

Opening it up and spraying the pots with chemical cleaner seemed to do it actually. There was hardly any dust inside the machine, just a few spider webs. It had also been making static noise when I would press the channel switches above the pan control so I sprayed those down too. Its pretty easy t...
