Very interesting thread. I was talking to a friend the other day about EQ plugins, and he mentioned that the next version of Fruity Loops is going to have an emulation mode for some fancy shmancy 7-band graphic EQ from the 70s. He said he had seen the original outboard unit at Greenhouse Studios in ...

Just a minor point -- the "ADAT DB25" connector is actually an EDAC / ELCO 56 pin connector. :D Is your asking price on the blunt-to-blunt snakes the same as the EBay starting price? Also I'm undoubtedly looking in the wrong spot, but I can't find the cable part #s on Canare.com. Do you know what th...

Re: Krazy Kepex Blowout!!! Valley PR-10A rack w/10 modules $
$500 + shipping. Holy shit! Somebody needs to jump on this. The Gain Brain II's alone are worth the $500, they're so much fun! Great for bass, guitars, drums, and their "nuke" settings are merciless. They're a bit like Distressors in terms of the wide range of settings possible, and although they d...

*dons geek hat* There's an interesting article in the AES October journal about a Belgian TV station and their customer complaints. 75% of the complaints were audio-related (too loud commercials and that sort of thing). Anyway the gist of the article was that compressing at several stages along the ...

It's actually loads easier than most of the interminable bumf on this thread would have it. If the band thinks it's better, then it is. You ckearly don't understand your role as an engineer, if you think this way Mr. Mayor. I mean WTF? The band has come to you asking you for advice and you are the ...

Re: I'm SO SICK of the Mackie 1604
Does the 1604 sound the same as the 8 Bus? 8 Bus generally sounds transparent to me, though there are severe limitations to what you can do. Soundguy mentioned the lack of headroom. EQ is another item you can't push; the outputs are all 0 dbu (WTF?!?!?); the line-ins are all +4 only, but the tape-in...

Re: preproduction FAQ/info List i guess you would call it..
find a band around here that i would really like to record a song or two from do it for free or REALLY cheap to A. promote my friendly and comfortable work methods and 2. add to a demo reel. unfortunately, this was NOT favorable in any of those ways. ah well. Yeah, I like the idea of it, too, but I...

That's why flat rates never work for people who want to actually make money recording bands. Every time you charge a flat rate, you will be taken for a ride!colinandrew12 wrote:a flat rate-super cheap deal, i shouldn't need to record 8 takes of something when it's clear that the first one was fine.

Re: preproduction FAQ/info List i guess you would call it..
This is a particularly obnoxious problem with the bass. The low notes sound like farts instead of tones. Ah, the "Kornfart" sound! I attended Larry's recording workshop in Portland and he has this bowl full of all kinds of picks. What a great idea. That is a great idea. Dunno if this is relev...
