at moderate bitrates AAC does sound better than mp3, but then you're trapped on ipod or mac. I've been using Lame variable bitrate mp3 encoding for a long time now, the "v0" preset comes in at ~256k, and to my ears it sounds as good as AAC, and much better than default itunes encoding. There are a n...

the riff wrote:yes, this album sounds great. I think the Swedish generally make pretty good sounding records.. Refused, Cardigans, etc..
I had no idea Refused was swedish... always pictured them as your typical midwestern straightedge kids. Should Abba be on that list?

The KCRW show is here: http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/mb/mb070215peter_bjorn__john Really worth watching if you like these guys, they are definitely not just a studio band... I thought the conan performance was kind of safe and sterile by comparison. John, the drummer, isn't there, but the percu...

thanks for sharing that info, eskimo. Love the sound of this album... great bass sound, and I'm gaga for the kick sound on 'young folks'. Here is an absolutely amazing live performance from these guys... one acoustic set, then an electric set... sadly, John is not there but they do have a percussion...

I haven't heard the other, but Crane Wife is fricking amazing... the kind of album you could listen to a thousand times and still hear new stuff... also the kind of album that makes you despair at your own musicianship. The Decemberists have a couple live shows on Morning Becomes Eclectic, very wort...

recording to camera can work quite well. There are some drawbacks but it's very hard to argue against the benefits when it comes to post-production. Assuming they're using a decent camera, there's no reason the sound should be any worse than dat. Pretty much any documentary or reality based project ...

there's a fine line to be walking. On the one hand, you want to get the best possible sound and make the editor and sound designer happy. On the other hand, you want to be invisible on set as much as possible... a great sound guy on set is one you don't notice... by being invisible you are making th...
